DISTRICT, KEWEENAW COUNTY, MICHIGAN
Reddish/purple
datolite on basalt matrix with associated chlorite. The Owl Creek Fissure was
the main vein in the Copper Falls Mine and produced a number of large masses in
the 1860s. The datolite is well crystallized in complex forms with abundant
copper inclusions which impart the color. I collected this specimen in 1985.

NSMW7901 FLUORITE AND CALCITE PRICE: $85.
MUNDY'S
LANDING, HARRODSBURG, WOODFORD COUNTY, KENTUCKY
Cubic, white
fluorite crystals grouped over white calcite. The calcite is of the vein type
which is massive and with large, even cleavage planes typical of these deposits.
The fluorite is lightly zoned with a lighter rim and internal micro inclusions
of chalcopyrite. I acquired this from an old collection with a piece of paper
that indicated "traded from Gibbs 1959". I have decided to sell my collection of
Kentucky District specimens and focus only on Southern Illinois.

COPPER FALLS
AREA, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, KEWEENAW COUNTY, MICHIGAN
The mines and
outcrops of the Copper Falls are one of the most mineralized areas I know of.

NSMW6897 QUARTZ
PRICE: $75.
STEEL'S QUARTZ MINE, LYNDHURST, SOUTHEASTERN ONTARIO, CANADA
Complete
floater group of quartz with creamy white centers and localized semi-transluscent
rims. This is a well known Canadian quartz location from a 'mine' that was
intensely collected about 38 years ago. Apparently, the vugs were only
accessible by collecting surreptitously on weekends or after hours but they were
indeed prolific as hundreds of fine crystals were found. They long since
disappeared from the market and are only available from old collections. One damaged
point (bottom of lower photo) but otherwise no faults. Crystals to 12.5 cm in
length and overall 3.5 x 10.5 x 12.5 cm.

NSMW6861 ARAGONITE
PRICE: $85.
CHINA
Fine
interlocking network of stalactitic aragonite crystals. The locality is very
general, obviously, but the dealer I acquired it from could not be more
specific. I do know that there are a number of these coming out right and many
are the classic 'Flos Ferri' type which may aid in location identification. Very
attractive and in top condition. Mined 2006. 4 x 5 x 7 cm.

NSMW6768 CHALCOPYRITE AND QUARTZ PRICE:
$90.
NIKOLAEVSKIY

NSMW6713 VESUVIANITE
PRICE: $25.
HENG DANG MINE,
FUSHAN, HEBEI PROVINCE, CHINA
Vesuvianites
from China have been coming out for a while from a fantastic location for the
species. Some of the best in the world have come from here in recent times. This
is a very fine TN in perfect condition with nice modified corners and lustrous
sheen. Rich root beer brown color. Mined 2006. 6 x 12 x 12 mm.
NSMW6712 QUARTZ
PRICE: $45.
BOR MINE,
DAL'NEGORSK, PRIMORSKIY KRAY, RUSSIA
Complete doubly
terminated semi-transparent quartz with sharply incised lines along the prism.
These highly distinctive incisions are from simultaneous growth with calcite.
The carbonate phase is dissolved at some point which leaves the cleaveage planes
clearly visible. It is interesting to note that there are offsets along the
prism faces sometimes which indicates pocket movement and re-cementing by
calcite. They make for wonderfully interesting and displayable quartzes. Mined
2006. No faults. 2 x 2.5 x 7 cm.

NSMW6565 CALCITE PRICE: $48.
BERRY MATERIALS
QUARRY, NORTH VERNON, INDIANA

lustrous calcite with just a hint of matrix on the bottom. Essentially complete

6th LEVEL,
NEW ALLOUEZ MINE #3, OSCEOLA LODE, HOUGHTON COUNTY, LAKE SUPERIOR
COPPER DISTRICT, MICHIGAN
Rich seam of
native copper with associated calcite. There was a cross-fracture on the 6th
level where this specimen was exposed in the drift wall. I collected it in 1978
and packed it up the 6 levels to surface by climbing the inclined shaft. It was
a real treasure at the time since I was still a student at Michigan Tech.

WHITE PINE
MINE, COPPER RANGE COMPANY, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, ONTONOGAN COUNTY,

were filled with calcite and copper and occasionally silver as well. Mined in
1992 from a now closed and classic location in the Copper Country. In top
condition. 1 x 8.5 x 9 cm.

SOLD
NSMW6357 QUARTZ
WITH CHLORITE INCLUSIONS PRICE: $65.
GANESH HIMAL,
NEPAL
Transparent,
gemmy quartz with abundant inclusions of deep green chlorite. There are new
specimens from this area recovered every Summer as field collectors head up into

COPPER AND PREHNITE PRICE: $65.
WEST VEIN, PEWABIC
AMYGDALOID, QUINCY MINE, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, HOUGHTON COUNTY,
MICHIGAN
Native copper and
prehnite with associated quartz. The copper is hued in black, red and red/brown
from varying stages of oxidation within the vein. I collected this specimen from
an exposure of the Pewabic lode when the road commission was widening the road
just across from the Quincy #7. There were a number of these attractive
sculptural pieces as well as one mass that I took out that weighed about 180
pounds. It was great to see this famous lode actually mineralized in place and
it gave a really good impression of how rich the ore body was. I left the
original patina in place and only cleaned the specimen with a water gun.
Ross C. Lillie Collection #119.
Collected 1978. 1.5 x 8 x 13 cm.
NSMW5360

COPPER PRICE: $25.
SENECA MINE, LAKE
SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, KEWEENAW COUNTY, MICHIGAN
Coppery/brown, three
dimensional group of copper with a combination of copper casts after analcite and complex
copper crystal forms. There was a footwall vein parallel to the main Kearsarge Lode that
ran for thousands of feet through virtually all of the major mines in the Houghton County
area that was wonderful to collect from as it was nearly always crystallized with copper
casts after analcite or copper crystals and sometimes just fantastic sculptural forms. I
collected this around 1978 when I was at Michigan Tech. Fine form and rich, natural
patina. 3 x 5 x 6.5 cm.
NSMW5103

Black tourmaline crystal
jutting up from a white feldspar matrix. The tourmaline has a complex termination due to
parallel growth on the prism that gives the specimen fluted edges and a hoppered
appearance when viewed down the c-axis. Minor damage to the termination off to
one side but it displays very well and is otherwise in excellent condition. Mined/collected c. 2001.3 x 3.5 x
7 cm.
