Complete floater group of quartz with creamy white centers and localized semi-transluscent rims. This is a well known Canadian quartz location from a 'mine' that was intensely collected about 38 years ago. Apparently, the vugs were only accessible by collecting surreptitously on weekends or after hours but they were indeed prolific as hundreds of fine crystals were found. They long since disappeared from the market and are only available from old collections. One damaged point (bottom of lower photo) but otherwise no faults. Crystals to 12.5 cm in length and overall 3.5 x 10.5 x 12.5 cm.

BOR MINE, DAL'NEGORSK, PRIMORSKIY KRAY, RUSSIA

Complete doubly terminated semi-transparent quartz with sharply incised lines along the prism. These highly distinctive incisions are from simultaneous growth with calcite. The carbonate phase is dissolved at some point which leaves the cleaveage planes clearly visible. It is interesting to note that there are offsets along the prism faces sometimes which indicates pocket movement and re-cementing by calcite. They make for wonderfully interesting and displayable quartzes. Mined 2006. No faults. 2 x 2.5 x 7 cm.

Rich seam of native copper with associated calcite. There was a cross-fracture on the 6th level where this specimen was exposed in the drift wall. I collected it in 1978 and packed it up the 6 levels to surface by climbing the inclined shaft. It was a real treasure at the time since I was still a student at Michigan Tech.  Ross Lillie Collection. 5 x 11 x 12 cm.

NSMW5581      COPPER AND PREHNITE     PRICE: $65.

WEST VEIN, PEWABIC AMYGDALOID, QUINCY MINE, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, HOUGHTON COUNTY, MICHIGAN

Native copper and prehnite with associated quartz. The copper is hued in black, red and red/brown from varying stages of oxidation within the vein. I collected this specimen from an exposure of the Pewabic lode when the road commission was widening the road just across from the Quincy #7. There were a number of these attractive sculptural pieces as well as one mass that I took out that weighed about 180 pounds. It was great to see this famous lode actually mineralized in place and it gave a really good impression of how rich the ore body was. I left the original patina in place and only cleaned the specimen with a water gun. Ross C. Lillie Collection #119. Collected 1978. 1.5 x 8 x 13 cm.

Coppery/brown, three dimensional group of copper with a combination of copper casts after analcite and complex copper crystal forms. There was a footwall vein parallel to the main Kearsarge Lode that ran for thousands of feet through virtually all of the major mines in the Houghton County area that was wonderful to collect from as it was nearly always crystallized with copper casts after analcite or copper crystals and sometimes just fantastic sculptural forms. I collected this around 1978 when I was at Michigan Tech. Fine form and rich, natural patina. 3 x 5 x 6.5 cm.

COPPER FALLS AREA, KEWEENAW COUNTY, MICHIGAN

Iridescent native silver in light gray prehnite. There are silver crystals present as cubes and  spinel twins along with hackly masses. The tarnish on the silver can easily be removed with a very mild silver cleaner which will do no harm to the specimen, or, it can be left intact to tarnish eventually a venerable gray. Fine miniature. 1.2 x 2.0 3.2 cm.

NSMW4593      TOURMALINE     PRICE: $45.

ERONGO MOUNTAINS, NAMIBIA

Black tourmaline crystal jutting up from a white feldspar matrix. The tourmaline has a complex termination due to parallel growth on the prism that gives the specimen fluted edges and a hoppered appearance when viewed down the c-axis. Minor damage to the termination off to one side but it displays very well and is otherwise in excellent condition. Mined/collected c. 2001.3 x 3.5 x 7 cm.
