Product Overview

The Gribble Vein was a sympathetic fissure west of the Owl Creek Vein and was worked independently along with the development of the Ashbed Lode. The vein was very rich and produced a number of masses during the peak production years of the early 1860s. Most of the copper from the fissure was simply mass copper with crudely formed crystals tightly compacted in a chlorite matrix. However, on rare occasions some great pieces turned up. I collected it from loose rock left after a blast. Elongated tetrahexahedrons with calcite casts and no attached matrix. The location I determined from an old surveyor's map dated 1863. Rare and in my opinion a very special piece. No faults. Ross C. Lillie Collection. 1.8 x 6 x 9 cm.
