KEARSARGE LODE, CENTENNIAL MINE, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, HOUGHTON COUNTY, MICHIGAN
Rich coppery red cuprite patina on native copper with no point of attachment. The specimen came from a miner who worked in the Centennial Mine c. 1950s-1960s and who kept his own local collection. The piece was likely collected from a mud seam that traversed the lode as judged from the overall form of the specimen and vein-like contacts on a couple of sides. Great color and a fine vug of sharp crystals. No faults. Medium/large cabinet 5 x 8 x 20 cm. Specimen comes with a custom made acrylic Sunnywood base. Paul LaBonte Collection.
