Product Overview
PEWABIC LODE, QUINCY MINE, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, HOUGHTON COUNTY, MICHIGAN
The Quincy Mine is the premier locale for copper-in-calcites without question. A number of fantastic specimens were collected in the upper levels of the mine in the late 1800s that were prized by miners, collectors and museums. They are some of the most sought specimens from the Copper Country. This is a fine small/medium cabinet specimen with lustrous calcites richly charged with native copper. It is virtually perfect except for one cleaved crystal in the center of the piece: see bottom photo at center left. However, it has great display character and visual appeal and is overall a commanding piece. Mined c. 1870s-1890s. 5 x 7 x 9.5 cm. Paul LaBonte Collection.
