Product Overview

Light lavender purple fluorite grouped over vein-type calcite with associated barite. The fluorite is preferentially etched on one side of the specimen imparting a hoppered surface and indicating copious fluid movement or interaction with ground water through fractures. The barite is formed into balls that have hydrocarbons on the surface and evidence of dissolution. Classic vein-type calcite matrix. Fine three dimensional form and in excellent condition with only a few very small nicks. I acquired this specimen in 1993 at the Milwaukee Mineral show, at the time I was collecting minerals from the 'other side of the river' in addition to the southern Illinois side of the district. The Rocksmiths sold it me as they were brokering the Asher and Nancy Tulles Collection: a couple who lived in the Louisville area as I recall. 9 x 12 x 16 cm.
