Product Overview
PHOENIX MINE, LAKE SUPERIOR COPPER DISTRICT, KEWEENAW PENINSULA, KEWEENAW COUNTY, MICHIGAN
The 'Copper Country' of Northern Michigan is world famous for producing superb native copper specimens. For over 120 years the area was mined continuously for copper in pure native form. The Phoenix Mine is one of the most famous locations in the native copper in crystallized form. This specimen is a floater with no point of attachment and no attached matrix. The crystals are combinations of tetrahexahedrons with some twinning. I found it in 1976 while exploring the location for any potential opening into the mine. No faults. Ross C. Lillie Michigan Collection. 3 x 5 x 5 cm.
