NSMW7461 SPHALERITE ON SIDERITE PRICE: $250. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA The Gheturi Mine has produced some of the most unusual and unique combinations and assemblages in the district. This might be the case because it is located on the extreme northwest fringe of the area and as such might have substantially different geologic setting. This is a specimen from a unique pocket of ball-like groups of lustrous black sphalerite that was found in 2005. The sphalerites are randomly oriented over the rounded surfaces which may indicate they are pseudomorphs after a previous species, perhaps a carbonate, and there are small quartzes that have been replaced by light greenish/gray chalcedony. The back of the piece has numerous pyrite crystals and there are a couple of chalcopyrites in combination with the sphalerite. Small cabinet at 3 x 7 x 10 cm.
NSMW7396 SPHALERITE AND QUARTZ PRICE: $65. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Combination of high luster sphalerite, transparent quartz and micro dolomite. NSMW7319 SIDERITE AFTER CALCITE PRICE: $220. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA There are at least three forms of siderite pseudomorphs from the Gheturi Mine and of those three this habit is most rare. The calcites were grown in elongated, acicular-like bundles grown up off the quartz matrix. Light and reddish/brown siderite faithfully replaced them and in turn the quartz has been pseudomorphed by light greenish/gray chalcedony. Very fine, undamaged small cabinet specimen from mining 2005.
NSMW7317 CALCITE PRICE: $350. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA A very fine specimen of the rounded calcite balls found in the Boldut Mine that are perched on brown dolomite matrix. The calcites, to 2.1 cm, have a creamy color and satiny luster that contrast exceptionally with the matrix. Sharp, clean and undamaged small cabinet specimen from mining c. 2004. 5 x 5 x 6.5 cm.

This specimen is available for donation. NSMW7157 SIDERITE AFTER CALCITE PRICE: $6800. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA The Gheturi Mine is located in the extreme northwest portion of Romania in the county of Satu Mare. The major mines of Maramures county are miles away and the Gheturi Mine was totally overlooked and unknown for years to collectors and dealers. A few years ago, around the late 1990s, specimens from the mine were so prolific that they started trickling into Maramures and mixed in with other specimens from the area. Just recently, around 2002-2003, some of the finest pseudomorphs ever found in Romania were collected and brought to market. It is one of two or three of this size and quality that arepresent the largest and finest recovered from the mine. It has amazing size and impact with individual crystals exceeding 30 cm on edge. Colors are multiple shades of chocolate browns with reddish and tan highlights and the crystals have an attractive drusy sheen. An absolutely amazing pseudomorph mined c. 2004. One of the best and largest of it's kind....anywhere. A fantastic specimen. 22 x 60 x 86 cm. Details of sponsorship donation to Museum The specimen has been transported to and is currently on display at the Arizona Mining & Mineral Museum in Phoenix, Arizona and contributes as an integral addition to the pseudomorph section. It has been described and evaluated by a certified appraiser licensed by the state of Arizona with a value that will allow a substantial deduction from taxes after a three year loan/purchase program with the museum. A letter of receipt and thanks from the museum will be provided along with the appraisal. Please contact me, Ross Lillie, or Jan Rasmussen, Ph. D. and Curator at the museum for further details about this opportunity. Jan C. Rasmussen: 602.771.1612 (Office phone) e-mail: geoarizona@gmail.com Ross Lillie: 248.926.9929 (Office phone) e-mail: northstarminerals@comcast.net

NSMW7142 BARITE PRICE: $250. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA There was a sensational find of light yellow barites a few years ago that produced a number of these excellent specimens. As is typical with all of the mines here, the combinations were not repeated and most if not all of the pieces have been absorbed by collectors and museums. This piece is from a stash of specimens and represents the fine bladed crystals (to 4 cm across) on matrix of sphalerite with associated chalcopyrite. Undamaged. 5.5 x 5.6 x 6 cm.
NSMW7135 CALCITE PRICE: $250. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Wafers of creamy/white calcite with good luster and great sculptural arrangement. There are a few tiny chalcopyrites at the base and some traces of quartz. Mined c. 2000. it is possible that these are actually dolomite pseudomorphs after a manganaon calcite but an analysis is necessary as sight identification is not definitive. No damage. 7 x 10 x 11.5 cm.
NSMW7134 QUARTZ WITH DOLOMITE PRICE: $250. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Group of quartz crystals, typically 5-6 cm in length, with a light preferential druse of yellowish/white dolomite and associated pyrite in base. PRINZIPAL MINE, HERJA, BAIA MARE, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Light gray lustrous doubly terminated quartz crystals, typically 0.5 cm, stacked up over a stalactitic stem. Many of these are quite fine but much smaller as a rule. This one has excellent size and great presence in a display case. Mined 2006. One contact point near the right side of top which does not detract and in fact is hard to find. 4 x 6 x 16.5 cm.
NSMW7132 STIBNITE ON SIDERITE PRICE: $125. PRINZIPAL MINE, HERJA, BAIA MARE, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Bright metallic black stibnites richly grouped on light brown siderite. Complete on all sides with no contact points and in wonderful condition. Mined c. 2003. 3.5 x 3.5 x 5.6 cm.

A couple of very tiny nicks that do not detract. 4 x 4.5 x 6 cm.
NSMW7096 BARITE PRICE: $280. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA Transparent bladed barites on galena and sphalerite matrix. The barites, to 5 cm across, have the typical glassine luster and light yellowish tinge from the great finds in the mine. Mined c. 2002. Trivial chipping along a couple of edges and essentially an eye-clean piece. 4.5 x 5 x 6 cm.
NSMW7093 SIDERITE ON CHALCOPYRITE PRICE: $48. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Orangey/tan siderite on a mound of chalcopyrites. A rare combination from the mine. NSMW7091 DOLOMITE AFTER CALCITE ON SIDERITE PRICE: $120. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA A single calcite crystal that has been replaced by dolomite and perched on siderite. This specimen is unique in my experience. The pseudomorph has a pleasing yellowish color and makes a good contrast with the siderite. The pocket must have been small or perhaps this is a variation on a theme where the other crystals in the pocket were just different in character. Mined c. 2005. In top condition. 3.5 x 5 cm.
NSMW7087 SPHALERITE WITH QUARTZ PRICE: $120. BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA A group of black sphalerites with a crown of quartzes and tiny but very bright galenas. Fine sphalerites are relatively uncommon from the Boldut Mine even though it is a primary ore mineral. Shows twinning very well on the sphalerites. No faults. Mined c. 2005. 2.5 x 5.5 x 6 cm.
NSMW7084 SIDERITE AFTER CALCITE PRICE: $280. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA The best siderite pseudomorphs in Romania come from this mine. There were a number of fantastic pockets found in the early 2000's that produced a wide variety of great siderite pseudomorphs after calcite. The Turt Mine is now closed and may never re-open again. This is a very fine combination of the 'clam shell' habit with individual crystals to 3.5 cm across which are in turn selectively coated with a contrasting light orangey/white calcite. No faults. 4.5 x 6 x 8 cm.
NSMW7083 CALCITE ON MARCASITE AFTER PYRRHOTITE PRICE: $85. HERJA MINE, BAIA MARE, MARAMURES, ROMANIA White calcites balls on matrix of black sphalerite with associated marcasite after pyrrhotites which are partially covered with light tan siderite. Mined c. 2005. A couple of trivial nicks which do not impact display. 3 x 4 x 6 cm.
NSMW7082 SIDERITE AFTER CALCITE PRICE: $225. I acquire virtually every good piece that I find when I'm buying overseas. These will eventually disappear from the market place just like all of the great calcite balls from Herja. Single, very sharp rhomb of calcite replaced by light brown and chocolate brown siderite. A great miniature from mining in 2005.3 x 3.5 x 5.2 cm.
NSMW7081 CALCITE ON SIDERITE PRICE: $120. PRINZIPAL MINE, HERJA, BAIA MARE, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Lustrous balls of light gray calcite perched on a stem-like growth of light brown siderite. Complete on all sides with no point of attachment. Perfect. Mined c. 2001. 2.5 x 3 x 5 cm.

BOLDUT MINE, CAVNIC, MARAMURES, ROMANIA Combination of two distinct stages of dolomite with a light brown drusy phase overlain by ivory/white lustrous ball-like groups of aggregated prismatic crystals that have replaced primary calcite. There was only occurrence of these specimens that came out a couple of years ago and they have not been seen since. Mined c. 2005. No damage. 4 x 8 x 9 cm.
NSMW7046 SIDERITE AFTER CALCITE WITH GALENA PRICE: $280. GHETURI MINE, TURT, OASULUI MOUNTAINS, SATU MARE, ROMANIA Two interconnected cogswheels of pyrrhotite, 4 and 5 cm across, that have been replaced by ochre/brown siderite on matrix of silicified country rock. There are a few tiny selenites on the reverse with a transparent orange color.
